One Piece At A Time

Bitossi, 21 cm

A wonderful Bitossi vase, probably made in the 1960s. To my knowledge, there is no proper attribution for this decor; sellers online, however, have taken to describing it as “Puzzle,” or even more strangely, “Monkey Puzzle” (!). Whatever the name, it possesses all the hallmarks of a classic Bitossi MCM piece: on-form colors for the period, a granular base, and decent weight. The most interesting aspect to this vase? The caramel and orange pieces are smooth and glossy, while the purple ones are rough and matte. It’s a considered choice which helps separate it from other manufacturers’ products at the time, showing the care Bitossi put into every piece.
