Scheurich 284-15, 484-21 (handled), and 284-19

Hurricanes, with their counter-clockwise movement, would seem to have been the inspiration for this arresting yet simple decor. It can be found on at least 3-4 other Scheurich forms and tends to vary (as can be seen above) quite a bit in the application of the black, tube-lined glaze. It’s a reminder of the human element: The artisans who decorated these struggled with the same day-to-day issues (bills, relationships) we all do. Having a good day? It’s all sunshine and warm breezes in the swirls on the 484. Having a bad day? Look out, little 284… I see dark clouds on the horizon.
