Japanese tea cup, age/maker unknown

Veering off the Mid Century path for a moment, I have a different ceramics story here. Three years ago, I bought a house. According to the neighbors, the previous owner had stuffed the house FULL of junk. His agent removed almost everything, but had neglected to address the garage. I cleared most of it when we moved in, then forgot about the rest. A month ago I took a look at the rafters and said It is time to finish this, so up the ladder I went. I pulled down some old wood, a can of screws and two beat up chipped enamel pots, then placed my hand on the remaining item: a dusty, worn cardboard box. I pulled it down, expecting it to be full of rusty nails, but when I wiped the box clean I saw a faded Jap Tea Cups on the top. Huh, I thought, and then I opened it. Inside were six treasures, as new as the day they were made, all made and painted by hand. I don’t know who made the cups, nor do I know their age, but having them fall into my hands after three years of hard (and expensive) work on this house… and being a ceramics collector… AND being someone who loves Japan… heck, it was as if God himself was smiling on me. Truly sugoi (凄い), as they say in Japanese.
