Carstens 5011-35 and 1267-31

One of the joys of a site like this is sharing what I own with others, but I wish I could take better pictures — my images struggle to capture the depth and beauty of some pieces, as is the case here. The smaller one has a deep, mirror-like blue covered in shapes which appear to be made of continuously dripping liquid metal; the larger one has been glazed as if its “rings” really were metal and had rusted here and there. Images can’t quite translate the otherworldly mix of brown, orange and caramel connoting the “rust” effect, nor can they show the movement or artistry of the piped-on silver. Much like every museum Van Gogh I have ever seen — whose undulating waves of oils are flattened and rendered less interesting by photography — these can only be fully appreciated in person.
