Bay Keramik 64-50

The joy of collecting anything is finding something just a little bit different. In this case, I had been searching for a Bay Keramik 64 or 65 series (aka the “bubble” series) vase for quite some time, but just couldn’t make up my mind due to the variety of combinations available. There were sizes ranging from 14 to 30 cm… myriad color combinations from the orange and yellow above to brown; green; tan and blue; brown with mint and red; brown and orange; etc… and handled (denoted by a 65) and non-handled (denoted by a 64) pieces. Where to start? I was getting to the point where I was just going to buy one of each when this monster popped up online, and I just knew it was the one. And the surprises didn’t end there! The glaze combination is amazing, and paired with the molded bubbles seems to move under sunlight. The neck, despite the rough look approximating a sand-etched Bitossi, is smooth to the touch. Lastly, it is wonderfully light for something meant as an umbrella holder. All in all, a fun find and one which provided fuel for the next search. After all, if you aren’t looking, how will you find it?
