Ceramics are my stock in trade but I am always open to other Mid-Century objects, regardless of material, if they spark joy. Despite a complete lack of provenance, this lanky fellow’s wonderful fluidity, athleticism and focus made me smile and was thus an easy purchase. It’s ironic I should admire such a figure, as my childhood experience playing baseball was rather similar to that of Charlie Brown, i.e. a lot of strikeouts and poor fielding. (The enticing aroma of hot dogs wafting from the stand behind me in right field didn’t exactly help my concentration, to be fair.) Perhaps this figure brings me happiness because he is how I always wished I could have been on the baseball field… a sentiment several beleaguered coaches and my own father probably share!
